Creating Belonging – Kick-off Workshop for Queer Base Buddies
„Queer Base is my family!“ is a message we often hear from queer refugees that found their way to Queer Base. But what creates this sense of belonging? Coming together with the LGBTIQ Community is key to the wellbeing of newcomers and for example, the Queer Base Café on Thursdays is one of the first stepping stones.
The workshop „Creating Belonging“ is open to everyone that wants to join Queer Base and become a buddy. Depending on your interests and time you can help us organize the Café, support us at public events like street fairs or exchange language skills, or accompany someone to an appointment with a doctor or office. It could also be that you have a couch or room to offer and you would like to take part in our emergency housing group.
The workshop will provide info on the history of Queer Base, share knowledge about how it is to seek asylum as a queer person, and some general skills and fun that can be useful to become a buddy at Queer Base.
Mostly we are looking for people who are part of the LGBTIQ community, either with or without experience of flight or migration, we love to have a mix of volunteers with diverse backgrounds and skills. We are convinced that in our beautiful diversity, we create again and again this sparkly sense of belonging… Wanna join?
